Retired Law professor and sometime amateur sleuth, Roger Trapp, receives a provocative email at his Denver apartment from Sir Reginald Smythe. The man is an old teaching colleague in England who is on a mission to restore to his family lineage, an RAF pilot who Sir Reginald feels was unfairly “drummed out of the family.” The man died over 50 years earlier in a U2 plane crash in the United States. Sir Reginald is now in need of someone in the U.S. to ascertain the pilot’s activities up until his death. He knows Roger has the integrity, intelligence and persistence to do a thorough investigation and wants to hire him for the job.
Sir Reginald needs Roger’s information for a family history he wants to get published prior to a forth-coming family reunion. In it, he can restore the pilot’s family position. However, his publisher insists that more background about the RAF pilot is needed. He will not publish the document unless either more information is provided, or the man is left out of the history entirely. Sir Reginald is now faced with a tight deadline he might not be able to meet. Roger takes the job and proceeds on what he envisions as an interesting intellectual challenge. However, he is harassed by unknown antagonists whose motives are inspired by events that occurred as long ago as the crash itself. The events include a drug-induced vision and actions of conspiracy theorists and UFO fanatics. Now, his physical courage is also challenged, and he has to decide whether or not to back out of his assignment before things become dangerous. Roger refuses to give up. After all, an old friend is depending on him to help settle a very important question… a question of honor.

A Question of Honor edition by Jim Koehler Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A Question of Honor weaves a tapestry of the real and the surreal into a suspense thriller written at a reading level comfortable for any reader.
Several content areas within the book add to its richness. Skip hopping back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean from the UK to the United States, settling in among the southwestern states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Texas adds an allurement that prompts the reader to progress further into the tale. The taste of New England, including Manhattan, provides a sharp contrast as the characters blossom in the deserts and customs of dry, arid geographic areas of this nation. In that I have traveled throughout and/or lived in Europe, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Russia, Brazil, and Japan, as well as every state in this nation, the capturing of culture, history, and topography adds a measure of familiar intrigue as the waltz of real and unreal intertwines
I think, however, the generational play of the characters among 4 generations may have as much allure for me as any component of the book. So many of the conversations among the generations spoken and unspoken in verbal and nonverbal communications in A Question of Honor are those I have either experienced or have become aware of from others. I was particularly struck that the behaviors and conversations of grandfathers were so very honored and revered by grandsons…a very sobering message for each of us.

A solid contribution to fiction about aircraft accident investigation. Explores both the physical and emotional terrain in the larger vicinity of Roswell NM, examining how differently one event can be perceived. The different interpretations set off reverberations that persist for several generations. The search for truth brings together an intriguing cast of characters, including personae from Koehler's earlier novels.
I have read most of Jim Koehler books and find them all to be interesting and having good character development. His books are easy to read and have a good story line.
This book keeps the reader turning the pages with good pacing, a fascinating plot, and interesting characters. There are several plot twists as the story unfolds. It starts out with a lovable old knighted Englishman who needs to find some information about a long-lost family member. He contacts a former associate living in the US for some assistance. The man agrees, but before long he wonders whether he has gotten himself in over his head.
This novel is not only a good mystery, but woven throughout are themes that explore the meaning of family, honor, and the long-term consequences of choices made in youth. The story explores how people's views of these concepts have changed over time. There are also a variety of settings including England, Connecticut, New York City, New Mexico, and Texas. The author includes plenty of rich detail about the places where the story occurs, especially the southwestern locales.
This is about a plane crash investigation involving an RAF pilot and an investigation of his mysterious life. Mr. Koehler tells the story showing how family values and the concept of family honor have changed over the last 60 years. There are lots of twists and turns to the story that will keep the reader interested. My favorite part was the development of the characters. It made me feel as though I met them in real life. It is a good an easy read.
